Divine Inheritance

A Reflection on the Psalm for Sunday, June 15th, 2025:
Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Psalm 8

R. O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what is a man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him?

R. O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Yet you have made him a little lower than the Angels, and crowned him with glory and honour. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet.

R. O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

All sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

R. O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Pause. Pray. Reflect.

We live in a beautiful paradox as daughters of God – called to deep meekness yet crowned with divine honour. I find myself teetering on that tightrope between humility and pride as I meditate on David’s words where he wonders, “What is man that you are mindful of him… Yet you have made him a little lower than the Angels, and crowned him with glory and honour.”

Saint Paul expands on our extraordinary identity as God’s children in his letter to the Galatians when he says, “you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir” (Gal 4:7).

This terribly beautiful contrast – with all its depths and layers – has me in awe. Who am I, Lord, that You would think of me, much less crown me? For what do dust and ashes have to be proud of? (Sirach 10:9). And yet, our Creator – Who formed us from the earth – calls us by name and sets before us a divine purpose. He sees more than what we are; He sees what we’re meant to be in Him.

I often feel suspended in this awareness: On one hand, there’s the full weight of my humanity – my flaws, fears, and limitations; on the other, the quiet yet undeniable dignity of being fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. Our weakness becomes the very space where God’s strength shines more brightly (2 Cor. 12: 9-10).

I wonder what would happen if I lived with a continual awareness of this identity – if I truly embodied it. What would change if I walked through every trial and tribulation knowing that I am seen, loved, and protected by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? If I remembered, not occasionally but constantly, that to unite my sufferings with Christ is to share in His glory? (Rom 8:17). That I am royalty – an heir – and that the fleeting treasures of this world pale in comparison to the eternal inheritance stored for me in heaven, untouched by rust, time, or sorrow.

How blessed I am to find my identity in You. O Lord, our God – how majestic is Your name in all the earth.

Oh Vanessa - what a beautiful challenge and reflection - thank you! I love that you remind us that we are “called to deep meekness yet crowned with divine honour”. How blessed are we? And I love that meekness isn’t weakness … putting my self will aside for the sake of following His will is my daily prayer. Thank you for the reminder ❤️

So beautiful Vanessa.

Such a beautiful reminder of our dignity as daughters of the King.

This section particularly struck me.
“What would change if I walked through every trial and tribulation knowing that I am seen, loved, and protected by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? If I remembered, not occasionally but constantly, that to unite my sufferings with Christ is to share in His glory? (Rom 8:17). That I am royalty – an heir – and that the fleeting treasures of this world pale in comparison to the eternal inheritance stored for me in heaven, untouched by rust, time, or sorrow.”

Lord, help me - help all of us - to live these truths so that we can be used by You to touch hearts and transform the world. Amen. 😊🙏🏻💕xo

God bless you, Vanessa.

Reading your beautiful message brought to mind an inspiring tune by Don Moen: “Who am I that You are mindful of me… You are my Creator King.”

It’s such a powerful reminder that God watches over us 24/7. He sees every tear, hears every prayer, and never grows weary of us. But sometimes, we get so busy, so caught up in the worries of life, whether it’s our next meal or the security of our jobs, that we forget to pause and just rest in His presence.

Thank You, Jesus, for always being near.
