Renew Our Lives Through Christ

A Reflection on the Second Reading for Sunday, April 20th, 2025:
The Solemnity of Easter Sunday

Colossians
3.1-4

Brothers and sisters: If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

or

1 Corinthians
5.6b-8

Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch, as you really are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Pause. Pray. Reflect.
Reflecting on my Easter journey was challenging, followed by an overwhelming hope! For the first few months of the year, I have been struggling with many roles—wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, professional, and friend. There have been countless times when I was overwhelmed.

Was I doing enough?
Being enough for everyone around me?
I had to be a pillar of strength for my family. There was no other option.
Don’t show emotion; too many people are watching.

How quickly I was reminded in our verse today that I am encouraged to seek solace in Christ. After reading and meditating on the word, all my worries disappeared. By placing Him at the center of my life, I am finding peace and strength that transcends all my earthly concerns. In addition to setting my heart on Christ, this verse reminds us to put our minds on Christ. For me, this involves a conscious effort to shift my thought patterns. Gosh, I go down a rabbit hole fast. Rather than dwelling on worries or material pursuits, I’m continuously refocusing myself to immerse myself in God's things—His love, grace, and teachings. Easier said than done, right?

I find myself each Easter with a profound sense of renewal and hope. Yet this year has been different. I’ve been called to embrace this season with my heart wide open, allowing the transformative power of Christ's resurrection to permeate every aspect of my life. One practical way I’ve focused on this is through prayer and meditation. I dedicate time daily to quiet reflection, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide my thoughts. I read scripture and participate in praise and worship, even if that’s a dance party in my kitchen with a four-year-old. This has been my anchor.

I pray that your reflection this Easter leads you to a deeper understanding of faith and a renewed sense of purpose. Let us celebrate the resurrection with joy and gratitude, knowing that Jesus's love and sacrifice forever transform us.
