A Hand to Guide Us

A Reflection on the First Reading for June 7th, 2020:
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Exodus 34.4-6, 8-9

Moses rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tablets of stone. The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name, “The Lord.”

The Lord passed before Moses, and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.”

And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. He said, “If now I have found favour in your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”

Pause. Pray.
And then read more...

The Lord’s character. I feel it! My heart responded first before my mind could comprehend. I felt enveloped in a loving warmth, bathed clean by His mercy and lavished with His steadfast love. Then I understood that this is who my Lord is, and He is with me forever.

There is nothing to fear, for He is with me, guiding me, holding my hand through life’s ups and downs. With the uncertainties of the times — of sickness and the loss of lives, not only from disease but from air accidents and even senseless killings, it is good to remember that He is there for me covering me with His mantle of protection!

Do you sometimes reflect on a decision that you made in the past and how it turned out to be a wise one because of how your present life is positively impacted by it? It was because He was there, guiding your hand, giving you a clear mind and the necessary input on which to base that one good decision.

One thing we often forget is that the Lord loves us immensely. In spite of our sinfulness, of our negligence or our thoughtlessness, He will still guide us in our decisions out of love for us. I remember times when I had forgotten to do something only to be thankful later on for that omission. When that happens I always say a little prayer of thanksgiving because once again the Lord guided me to the right path.

So let us be more confident for we have a Lord who loves us. Let us trust that He will take care of us and that He will lessen the load that we carry. Let us leave our worries and cares in His hands. Because we are happy recipients of His love, let us return that love and even share it with others. We are still being sent on that mission of spreading the Word by being living witnesses of His love.

Smile and simply be a happy Christian. That is witnessing the Lord’s love. It is a testament of His love for us and of our loving Him back! How can we remain sad, unhappy, and negative if we realize that we are loved — immensely?

Let us pray:
Lord, I thank you for Your love and Your care. Help me to never forget that I am loved by You. Help me to share that Love with others by being loving and caring especially to those in great need. Amen
