A Thriving Faith

A Reflection on the Second Reading for April 21st, 2019:
Easter Sunday: The Resurrection of the Lord

1 Corinthians 5.6b-8

Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole batch of dough? Clean out the old yeast so that you may be a new batch, as you really are unleavened. For our paschal lamb, Christ, has been sacrificed. Therefore, let us celebrate the festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

There is so much to be thankful for and so much to celebrate. Jesus has given the ultimate sacrifice and the utmost reward. He has given us nothing but pure love in order for our faith to flourish and our joy to be overbounding. Such a blessing should not be wasted. Although Jesus suffered a tragic and most painful death, it is one that was out of pure adoration and hope for us, His brothers and sisters. We mustn’t continue on trying to fuel our lives with old yeast when Jesus has already given us the things we need for the yeast of our lives to leaven; for our faith to grow.
"Just a little bit of faith can raise the spirits of many."

Just a little bit of faith can raise the spirits of many. Like yeast, with a bit of pure faith, there may be a visible rise in spirits. By following Jesus’ example, the hearts of others can be softened and lifted by the witness of faith. By striving to rid of the old yeast in our lives, the yeast of malice and evil, and of doubt and mistrust, we can allow the good in us to radiate. This goodness will serve to fulfill our identities in Christ as well as providing a witness for others to see Jesus’ example in us.

Jesus loves us so much that He suffered and died so that we may be given the chance to thrive in faith and love. It is a shame for that opportunity to not be taken. When we open ourselves up to receiving that little bit of yeast that the Lord provides, amazing things can happen. Faith will grow if you nurture it and allow for Jesus to help you to do so. I pray that I may go into this Easter weekend with the full effort of allowing my faith to thrive and to love others as He loves.
