Act in Love

A Reflection on the Second Reading for May 9th, 2021:
Sixth Sunday of Easter

1 John
4.7-10

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Pause. Pray.
And then read more...

God is love.

How beautiful is that?

When we show love and kindness to others, God is in those actions. And, when we receive love and kindness from others, God is there also.

The Lord calls us to love all others. Through love, we can be a witness to God’s goodness. Each of us is capable of providing and receiving love as we were created in the image and likeness of God, who is Love.

Do you find that when you are actively showing compassion, empathy, and kindness to others, that you feel at your best? I know I certainly feel that way. If I intentionally try to brighten the days of those around me, I feel most myself and most joyful. This is because God is especially present in those moments of love.

One of my favourite prayers to pray first thing in the morning is to ask the Lord to help me see each moment in my day where I can show empathy or kindness to others. No matter what your day looks like, I can guarantee that there is at least one (and likely many more) act of love that you can show to another. Maybe love looks like sending a text to a friend to let them know how much you appreciate them. Love is in praying for others. Love could look like wearing a mask to protect others. It could be complimenting a stranger on their hairstyle and wishing them well. Love could be shown by offering to pray over a friend or family member that is struggling, right then and there. Love is providing a warm smile to all you meet.

In all of the big or small things, there is always love to give. I pray that each day, God reveals to me opportunities to love others and receive love from those around me, because through those kindnesses we experience the Lord. Amen.

Beautiful reflection Megan! Thank you so much for the reminder that each of those moments of receiving or giving kindness in this world is an opportunity for me to give glory to God - who is the source of all goodness - for God is love. Amen! 😊🙏🏻💕xo

As soon as I finished the reading, I paused, sighed, and reflected on the fact that the one thing I know for sure, the one thing I know without a doubt, is that God is Love. Then I scrolled to your reflection, and what are the first 3 words, in large print? God is Love. Through all the layers of complicated scripture I’ve been trying to learn the past 2 years, this has been the foundation. Thank you Megan for reminding me of all the little ways that I can show and receive God’s love today. 🥰❤️

I love how this ties in with Lindsay's reflection on how we actively seek God. It is in giving that we receive Him, and in acting out of His love that we can be His hands and feet in this world. Your morning prayer to see with His eyes is so beautiful.

Help me to see as You see, Lord, and do as You do.
