A Reflection on the Psalm for February 7th, 2021:
Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Psalm 147

R. Sing praises to the Lord who heals the broken-hearted.

How good it is to sing praises to our God; for he is gracious, and a song of praise is fitting. The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.

R. Sing praises to the Lord who heals the broken-hearted.

The Lord heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.

R. Sing praises to the Lord who heals the broken-hearted.

Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. The Lord lifts up the downtrodden; he casts the wicked to the ground.

R. Sing praises to the Lord who heals the broken-hearted.

Pause. Pray.
And then read more...
“The Lord heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.”

Sometimes I forget how detailed and intentional the Lord really is. He made each and every star in the sky intentionally. He knows of each flower that sprouts up from the ground as it blooms in the spring. He knows each hair on your head and the freckles on your face. He knows all of the things your heart breaks for. He knows you. He created you with purpose. He worked with detail and intention to make you exactly who you are today.

How amazing is that? God created you with purpose. This design can be so easy to forget when we are drowning in worldly expectations and comparisons. Like the stars in the sky, you too were made beautifully by the Lord. Like this psalm proclaims, when you truly look at all of the beauty in God’s design, how could you not sing His praises?

Have you ever been out in nature, staring into God’s creation, just speechless at the beauty of it all? The Lord looks at you and all of His creation with that same adoration. God gives us astonishing sunsets, days of peaceful and light snowfalls, and grand views because He loves us. He wants us to experience His love and beauty. He deserves our utmost praise for all that He has blessed us with and all that He will bless us with. I pray that I can be mindful of God’s beauty around me and in me each day. Amen.

Oh so beautiful Megan. Thank you for this reminder. Your reflection reminded me of a little plaque that a dear friend gave me for Christmas many years ago. It reads: “Lord, let me not pass by the beauty in this day.” I often find myself repeating that prayer to myself in the most surprising times - usually when I feel the need to slow down, live in the moment and not get weighed down by the distractions of this world. It can so quickly refocus me on WHO is important. That is my prayer for all of us today. Lord, let us not pass by the beauty in this day. Amen. 😊🙏🏻💕xo

Ever since coming back to faith, I have found myself reflecting more and more on the beauty and wonder of this world and the people in it. Thank you Megan for reminding me of God’s attention to detail, His ability to see all of space and time, and yet still know every detail of my heart.

You have inspired me, Megan, to view this world today with fresh eyes -- the eyes of God who is Beauty itself.
