He Makes All Things New

A Reflection on the Second Reading for May 15th, 2022:
Fifth Sunday of Easter

Revelation
21.1-5a

Then I, John, saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.

And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among humans. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.”

How beautiful is this scripture!

When I first read those words, I couldn’t help but smile in pure thanksgiving: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” The Lord wants to wipe each tear from your face and rid you of all your sorrows. He makes all things new.

To me, this scripture feels like one of the first spring days in April: newness and sunshine, complete happiness and hope. Not only does the Lord want to be with us for eternity, but He wants to make us new. That is amazing news, isn’t it? He wants to foster our growth, fulfil us, and help us bloom like spring tulips. He wants us to feel the warmth of His love shining upon us. He wants us to blossom into the beautiful beings that He knows we truly are and deeply desires us to be. That is true love. He has nothing but the best intentions for us. Take a moment to think about that.

He wants this newness for you … right now … today. All you have to do is receive that love.

I pray that I may follow the Lord down this path of newness that He has intended for me, today and every day. Amen.

Oh Megan - so much joy in your reflection. Thank you for sharing. So beautiful and true.
“He wants to foster our growth, fulfil us, and help us bloom like spring tulips. He wants us to feel the warmth of His love shining upon us. He wants us to blossom into the beautiful beings that He knows we truly are and deeply desires us to be. That is true love. He has nothing but the best intentions for us…All you have to do is receive that love.”

All I have to do is receive it. He is always working for good. Lord, help me to receive all the goodness and beauty and joy and newness and love that You desire for me…that I may bloom and grow more into the person You are calling me to be and that I may better share You with others. Amen 😊🙏🏻💕xo
