My Father's Eye Is on Me

A Reflection on the Psalm for Sunday, May 26th, 2024:

Psalm 33

R.​ Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.

The word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. 

R.​ Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all their host by the breath of his mouth. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 

R.​ Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.

Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, to deliver their souls from death, and to keep them alive in famine. 

R.​ Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.

Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and shield. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. 

R.​ Blessed the people the Lord has chosen as his heritage.

Pause. Pray. Reflect.

Truly the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in his steadfast love …. (Psalm 33:18)

My Father’s eye is on me,
my hope in Him secure.
His steadfast love, His help my shield
for all I may endure.

My Father’s eye is on me,
I host His word within.
His breath upon my weary soul
keeps me alive therein.

His gaze both feared and stunning,
redeems and soothes my soul.
From death and want delivered
is my personhood made whole.

And from my Father’s vision
upon which the world was made
depends all He created –
lest unable, save His aid –

So I look to God my Father
and I meet His holy gaze.
Behold the Love for which I wait,
for which the Christ man paid.

I adore my faithful Father
as I lift my hands in praise!
I am safe in His intentions.
He is upright in His ways.

My Father always sees me. 
I am chosen as His own.
His eye is always on me,
and beneath His gaze I'm home.
