A Meditation on the Psalm for November 18th, 2018: Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Psalm 16
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge

​There are many reasons I could live in fear, but I know You cover me. I choose to put my trust in You.

​The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

You are my recompense, Jesus, You repair and restore my relationship with my heavenly Father. The portion and cup You give me is Your very self, veiled in bread and wine. When I have nothing to offer to make amends for my sins and failures You offer me Yourself, and in the Eucharist You invite me to share in Your sacrifice. You heal me, You are with me, and You make me one with You. You are my strength and You are always by my side - my helper at all times, and my security.

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge

My heart is pulled in many directions, but I will confide in You.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my soul rejoices; my body also rests secure. For you do not give me up to Sheol, or let your faithful one see the Pit.

You are my joy, and I delight in all that You are. You are relentless in love, and in Your mercy You deliver me from despair, loneliness, and self-hatred. When I am faithful to You it is only by Your gift of faith to me, and when I am far from You You do not abandon me. Your desire is for me to be in communion with You and all the ones You love. Let me experience heaven, starting right now.

Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge

I can be easily discouraged, but I know Your promises are true. I hope in You.

You show me the path of life. In your presence there is fullness of joy; in your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

When you dwell in me I am alive, because You are Life. You make my heart Your home, and so my heart becomes a little heaven. Let eternity begin now, let me know Your hope - help me be certain of the good things to come. I am made for union with You, my ultimate fulfillment. Only You satisfy the desires of my wild and restless heart. I want to spend my whole existence in Your presence, loving You and being loved by You. Please show Yourself to me - You are the path of life. I want to be fully alive in You, and share Your life with everyone I meet. ​
